Over the Christmas season, the Sherburn in Elmet scouts have been working hard supporting two local charities in their quest to help those most in need.
With an even more exceptionally tough year than ever, The St George’s Crypt and Clothing Bank Brotherton ran a Christmas Toy Gift Appeal, and through active engagement with the community we were able to donate hundreds of toys and gifts to these amazing charities.
Our covid safe drop off days, manned by our fabulous team of volunteers, proved to be a huge success with the local community, whose generosity was absolutely incredible.
St George’s Crypt deals with some of the most socially deprived areas in Leeds and estimated they would need to deliver over 3000 presents to children who would otherwise go without this year. For the homeless who would be spending Christmas Day at the Crypt, we also made stockings and hope that these brought a smile to some faces on Christmas Day.
The Clothing Bank, Brotherton were looking after 300 extremely vulnerable children, most of whom just had the clothes on their backs. This year it was more important than ever that these charities had the support of the community, and we hope that we have been able to make a difference to those in need.
A huge thank you goes out to to all the leaders and volunteers who helped organise the event, to the community for their incredible generosity and to our beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers for making their stockings.
